Overall we had a great experience with Sixt at Denver airport.

Yes, their location is of airport and you need to take a shuttle, but the same is true for all other rental companies in Denver. Our shuttle got their a minute after we left the airport and when we returned the car their was a shuttle waiting. The driver even helped unload the car and stored away our luggage on the bus.

The car was in decent shape, it had about 27,000 miles and the typical rental car scratches, dings and curbed wheels.

The pickup process was very nice, the person at the desk was nice and offered us some water. They had the exact car that we booked and we got in the car within 10 minutes.

The return process was fast and easy, we just got asked if the e-mail, the receipt will be sent to, was correct.

The reason I didn't give 5 stars was that the car wasn't in the best shape and it had worn tires,and I expected more from a rental company that mostly rents out luxury cars.

First the disappointing part of my Sixt experience... the Jeep Compass I was given obviously had not been cleaned after its previous rental. The car wreaked of cigarette smoke. It appeared someone had tried to cover up the smell with a spray but that had not helped. Someone had also spilled something in the backseat. The car was also fairly dirty on the outside.

I was very tired when I returned the car and forgot to stop at a gas station to top off the tank. Definitely - my fault. I was charged an extra $50 + cost of fuel. I wish the agent had mentioned this when I dropped off the car. She told me there would be no additional charges. I had extra time and would have taken the car to a nearby gas station to fill up. Again, I get it - it's my fault and I originally agreed to return the car full of gas. $50 just seems a little excessive especially considering I didn't get a clean car (cigarette smoke) at pick up.

Now to the good... there was no wait on the shuttle bus at the airport or upon returning the car. The shuttle drivers were friendly and helped with luggage. Most of the cars on the lot appeared to be new and in great condition. The Jeep Compass was almost brand new and was great except again for that cigarette smell. I'd be willing to give Sixt another try as long as I could be promised a clean car. And, I won't make that same mistake of not filling up again.

By the way, if you're renting from Sixt - there are no obvious signs at the Denver airport. Just head for the off airport shuttle area. Sixt texted me with the details as soon as I arrived.

[my below positive review is currently at risk because my wife left a sweater in the back seat of our car accidentally and it has been impossible to reach someone to get the item back. The Denver office does not list a number and no one reached out when they found the item at check-out. We have now left a message in their main "lost & found" and send an email but no response. Please contact us with info on how to retrieve the item, preferably with a real human. Thank you.]

Sixt just impressed the heck out of us. Fair price, easy rental process, no extra BS. Customer service was tremendous. Upgraded to all-weather when we asked what was possible. Vehicle was beautiful and spotless. For the first time renting a car the dude didn't hound us to get extra insurance or try to upsell us etc. It was straight forward, honest, clear and painless. Highly recommend.
